HOSPITAL!
February 15, 2012

Been waiting to tell you until it was official, but it's official.  Counting Crows have covered my song "Hospital" for their new album, Underwater Sunshine.  It's sort of insanely awesome to hear them singing a song I've been humming to myself for a few years now and I'm very excited to have you hear it.   Their record's due in  April, but here's the version that will appear on my new record, French Exit, to hold you over.

I WANT YOU
January 26, 2012

Why, hello there!  Long time no see.

What you been up to?

Seriously, it’s been a while.  Almost long enough to finish a record...

I think it’s all going to have been worth the wait, I hope you will too.

But here’s the deal.  We did it backwards. Out of the goodness of everyone’s hearts and excitement to get started, we made the record first.  It's sounding amazing, I think it's a major step forward and I can't wait for you to hear it.

And there's only one more thing I'm going to need for it to be done.

YOU.

I'll need your ears and your heart and for you to take it home and listen to it LOUD and then tell your friends about it and let it be a part of your soundtrack.

And with that in mind I'm going to be teaming up with pledgemusic.com in the next couple weeks to fund the album.   I think it's an opportunity for us to cut to the chase and collaborate and I’m inviting you to release it with me.

In exchange for your pledge, I’m putting together a list of exclusives and a look behind the curtain into the record getting made.  Plus, ten percent of the gross money raised will support the work of i2y.com, an advocacy group working on behalf of young adult cancer survivors.

I'm kicking it all off next week.  In the meantime, please help yourself to the track to your right and if you like it, share it.  Word.

THE LOS ANGELES FILES
January 25, 2012

From the Los Angeles files, a log of occurrences peculiar and specific to life in Los Angeles, the city I never thought I'd ever live in and now could never leave even if I wanted to.

My phone # is quite close to a popular hotel here in Los Angeles.  I get wrong numbered all night and day, but it's really only a bummer if it wakes the baby up.  It's especially high volume around tv and movie awards season.

People want room 303 or they want a cheeseburger, or a table by the pool, or a reservation for the weekend.  Sometimes the caller is someone quite famous, but whose number still shows up on the caller id. Rarer still are the ones that take your breath away because they are legends.

These are the ones that make me smile because growing up in Boston you could be pretty sure that you'd never get a wrong number and have the person on the other end be a proper movie star.

I wish I'd been home for this one, she rules.
